In my last post, “Guilt and Shame” I talked about hurting God by not remembering to pray. After I posted, I thought that some of you would say to yourselves, “But how could she hurt God by forgetting to pray?” Some would say that indeed I did hurt his feelings. I think that I harmed his honor. By virtue of his nature, God deserves my devotion and honor of him. When I withheld it, I harmed him by withholding his due. We rarely think of another person’s honor these days. No one talks about what they owe to another of honor or respect. Instead, we are often too wrapped up in what others owe us. Jesus honored God. Even though he could have claimed his own status as God and man, he honored God the Father. And so do we when we pray and study and worship and serve and thus live a God-honoring life.
Malachi 1:6 “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says the LORD Almighty.
Thank you for the reminder and the example you set. It Is sooooo easy to get out of the routine and forget…
