This past weekend, The Well had a booth at the Chamber of Commerce sponsored Health
Fair at the local YMCA. I work out at that Y, so I looked forward to being there where many people I know might come to know me as more than the person next to them in class. And, after all, health is more than just physical. 1 Timothy 4:8 “For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”
We had a few giveaways but the one that made people stop was the four weeks of fruits and veggies delivered to home from Lancaster Farm, a local hydrofarm. As a result, we talked to lots more people than we would have otherwise. Which made me wonder, how many of us pass up opportunities that would benefit us just because we don’t bother to look below the surface. Just seeing that we were a church sent many people passing right on by, but when I told them what they might receive if they entered our giveaway, they were at least willing to stop and chat. The idea of house churches intrigued many and they left with information about The Well.
The best part, though, was watching the people of the church who helped me that day step into the opportunity to share their excitement about faith and the church with those they did not even know, living out the instruction to “Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you.” 1 Peter 3:15
